Corfu: Emerald Cliffs, Venetian Streets
Evenings in Corfu Town gather on the Spianada, a broad green square with the arcaded cafés of the Liston along one side and cricket matches on the grass. The lanes of the Old Town behind it are lined with shops selling kumquat liqueur and sweets made from the small citrus fruit that grows well on the island. Town bus 15 runs from the airport into the center and on to the port, so a first night in town is easy even after a late flight. From that port, ferries cross to Sarandë on the Albanian coast, close enough for a day trip. Most of the island's luxury hotels sit on the east coast within half an hour of town, and one stands on the sandy west at Glyfada.
Where on the Island
Corfu gets much more winter rain than most Greek islands, and the hills stay green with olive groves and cypress as a result. From the northeast coast, Albania is only about 3 kilometers away across the strait at its narrowest. Nearly all the hotels below are on the calmer east side. North of town, the Kommeno Peninsula holds the big Grecotel resorts on their own coves, connected by boat in summer, and Gouvia's marina is a few minutes closer in. To the south, Benitses and Moraitika are small seaside villages under wooded slopes, with the Achilleion palace on the hill above. Glyfada, over on the west coast, is the exception, a long sandy beach that faces the sunset.
The 9 Best Luxury Hotels in Corfu
🥂 Adults Only, or Close to It
1. Domes Miramare, a Luxury Collection Resort, Corfu - Adults Only
📍 Location: Moraitika, southeast coast
Maria Callas and Jackie Kennedy Onassis both stayed here in the 1960s, when the hotel was new, built for the Onassis family to a design by the architect Charalambos Sfaellos. After a renovation, the Michelin Guide says, "It's also back to its status as one of Greece's most prestigious hotels." Kristina Zanic's interiors kept the mid-century lines, an olive tree grows in the lobby under skylights, and the resort itself stands in a seafront olive grove some five centuries old. A pianist plays in the evenings.
There are now 182 rooms and suites. The Sea Front Wing sits closest to the water, while the Opal and Jade suites in the Panoramic Wing face the sunset from higher up the slope. Chef Petros Dimas leads MAKRIS, the fine-dining room, alongside 1962 Restaurant by the Sea, and both are worth booking as soon as the stay is confirmed. The Miramaretta speedboat carries guests to the Old Town. The resort is adults-only and closes for the winter.
Best for: Anniversaries with a sense of Corfu's jet-set history.
2. Nido, Mar-Bella Collection, an SLH Hotel - Adults Only
📍 Location: Agios Ioannis Peristeron, southeast coast
All 70 suites at Nido look out to sea, so choosing a room comes down to terrace and tub. The Grand Terrace Junior Suite Whirlpool and the Deluxe Suite Whirlpool add hot tubs, and half the categories come with private pools. Opened in 2018 between Benitses and Moraitika, the hotel climbs a steep hill planted with lavender, rosemary and honeysuckle, and golf carts carry guests between levels. Country & Town House noted that "at night, the only sound is the hum of the island's innumerable cicadas." Apaggio, the rooftop restaurant, serves dinner only under the open sky, so a windy evening can move it indoors. Below, a small pebble beach shares a jetty with the MarBella hotel next door, and the spa includes a steam bath and sauna. Nido belongs to Small Luxury Hotels of the World, takes no children and closes over the winter.
3. Rodostamo Hotel & Spa - Adults Friendly
📍 Location: Kommeno Bay
Rodostamo is not a beachfront hotel. The beach sits about a kilometer away, served by a shuttle that does not run on Sundays, and the bungalows and villas climb a steep hillside above the main building, reached by a glass-walled cable car. What the slope buys is a view across Kommeno Bay. The Deluxe Panorama Villas have private heated pools, and the Premium Bungalows come with outdoor hot tubs. Fifty rooms keep the scale personal. The hotel takes its name from the Greek word for rosewater, which also goes into the signature spa treatment. Yiasemi, the main restaurant, handles breakfast and dinner. Children over 12 are welcome, and the drive into Corfu Town takes around 20 minutes.
🏖️ Built for Every Age
4. Corfu Imperial, A Grecotel Resort to Live
📍 Location: Kommeno Peninsula
Three sandy beaches wrap around the tip of the Kommeno Peninsula, and the Imperial has all of them. Its roughly 300 rooms, suites and villas sit among Italian-inspired gardens, and marble, antiques and classical paintings fill the public rooms, comprehensively renovated in 2022. Five restaurants take in Aristos for French fine dining, Yali for seafood on the water and Merlin's, an Asian-Latin room for guests 12 and over. The two-bedroom Waterfront Villas, with private pools and steps down to the beach, are the category to book. The Maisonette on the Rocs is a duplex with a bedroom on each floor, which suits couples better than toddlers.
A sea shuttle links the resort to Eva Palace and Daphnila Bay, and a free bus runs to the Old Town twice a day. In high season, Mon Repos, the main restaurant, can get crowded at breakfast.
Best for: Families who want a villa and a beach in the same booking.
5. Grecotel Eva Palace
📍 Location: Kommeno Peninsula
A 1,700-square-meter seawater pool sits at the center of Eva Palace, between 225 rooms, bungalows and villas and a Blue Flag beach. The Palazzina, a 140-square-meter beachfront villa, has two private pools among cypress and olive trees. Recent reviews describe a hotel in need of a major renovation, with the bungalows drawing most of the complaints, so the main building is the safer choice. The site slopes, the steps are irregular, and one guest counted a single lift that takes five people at a time. Dining runs across four restaurants, among them La Contessa for Italian and Sticks & Sushi. Guests can also book dinner at Corfu Imperial, about a ten-minute walk away, at no extra cost.
6. Angsana Corfu Resort & Spa
📍 Location: Benitses, hilltop above the Ionian Sea
Typical Price: ~$300–$1,200/night (varies by season and room type)
Guest rating: 8.9/10, Booking.com, checked May 2026
Book here: Angsana Corfu Resort & Spa on Booking.com
The infinity pool won the Prix Villégiature for the best hotel pool in the world in 2022, and it is the reason most guests choose this hilltop. The resort sits about 150 meters above the sea, and on a clear day the view runs to the mainland and Albania. Rooms have grey tiled floors, sliding partitions and marble bathrooms, and the sea-view categories are worth paying for. Around ten restaurants and bars include Vertigo, a rooftop bar open only in summer. A shuttle runs to the beach club on Emerald Beach every half hour from midday to 6 p.m. The Achilleion lies just north of the hill, while Corfu Town is about 12 kilometers away, far enough that guests without a car rely on taxis.
7. Kontokali Bay Resort & Spa
📍 Location: Kontokali, beside Gouvia Marina
At night, tiny underwater lights turn the infinity pool into what Globe Guide calls "a galaxy of stars." Pine and cypress cover the small peninsula, and some rooms look over the bay toward Gouvia Marina. The five-star resort holds 261 rooms and bungalows above a beach with Blue Flag status. Guests who want a private pool should ask for the Junior Suite Sea Front Private Pool Bungalow. Asterias Fine Dining serves Mediterranean à la carte, and Globe Guide finds the place "chic enough that adults have a reason to dress up for dinner." A free shuttle leaves for Corfu Town each morning; at other times, it is a taxi or a rental car for the 6 kilometers into the center. Some recent reviewers found food and drink prices high and the furniture tired.
8. Hyatt Ziva Corfu
📍 Location: Gouvia
Until 2026 this was Dreams Corfu, and some booking sites still list it under the old name while the rebrand rolls out. It is among the first resorts in Europe under Hyatt's Ziva all-inclusive brand, with suites and bungalows. The rate covers a buffet and several à la carte restaurants, and the popular tables are worth booking on arrival. Children have the Explorer's Club for ages 4 to 12 and the Core Zone for teenagers. Preferred Club guests get their own lounge and pool, and the Preferred Club Bungalow Sea View is the category to aim for. The sandy beach is narrow, with steps down into the water in places. Corfu Town is 10 to 20 minutes away by car.
Perfect for: A family holiday with nothing left to sign for.
9. Domes of Corfu, Autograph Collection
📍 Location: Glyfada, west coast
Sunset is the main event at Glyfada, and this is the one hotel here that faces it across open sand. Domes of Corfu opened in July 2021 in the refurbished Louis Grand Hotel, with three pools and separate zones for adults, families and VIP guests. Couples should look at the Sapphire Sublime One-Bedroom Suite, with its sea-view balcony; the Sapphire Junior Suite opens onto a swim-up pool, though it is shared with neighbors. Yaosai serves Asian dishes around a large olive tree, and the Soma Spa handles treatments. The sandy beach in front is public. Half-board rates leave out drinks, so the bill grows. Corfu Town is about 25 minutes by car, and the hotel closes from the end of October to late April.
Where Corfu's Grand Hotels Stand Now
Several of Corfu's big resorts are decades old, and recent reviews of Eva Palace show the wear. Domes Miramare turned its age into the selling point, with a lobby built around an olive tree, while the newer arrivals, Angsana and Domes of Corfu, compete on views instead.
Sixty years on from the Onassis era, a speedboat ride from Moraitika into the old quarter is still the arrival worth planning an evening on the Liston around.
